Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.
Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.
Supermarket collection days
We need volunteers to give an hour or two at occassional supermarket collection days, handing out shopping lists to encourage customers to give to the foodbank. If you are interested, please email [email protected] or call us on 07456426203.
The supermarket collection day scheduled for March 2020 at Tesco Extra on Prince Avenue has been cancelled. We hope to be able to run other collections days later in the year.
We need help to weigh, sort and store donated food before it’s made into parcels for clients to collect. You could help in this vital work to ensure we have the right food available at all times.
We need drivers to transport food weekly from our warehouse to a distribution centre. If you can have access to a vehicle and can help, we would appreciate it.
As well as collecting food, we aim to raise money to help cover our running costs (including storage and work space, boxes, administration costs, insurance, IT, printing etc.) and to buy essentials when we run out of stock. Fundraising can be as individual as setting up your own challenge and collecting sponsorship, supporting others in fundraising activities organised through the foodbank, through to helping run an event. We always need help arranging fundraising events, especially if you have time outside of office hours to help run activities such as quizzes, film nights, raffles etc. If you want to help with fundraising events, have a brilliant idea or need some help setting up a fundraiser, please get in touch with [email protected] .
Helping at a foodbank centre
Meet clients and give out food parcels. Have an informal chat with clients over a cup of tea, to discuss their situation and signpost to further support.
If you are interested in volunteering please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you!
