Supermarkets

Supermarkets across Southend and Rochford have regular donation points in store. Look for a cage, trolley or basket with a foodbank sign after the checkouts.

Volunteers from the foodbank collect from the supermarkets, usually about once a week, delivering them to our warehouse ready to be used to help people. Other supermarket stores have collections for different charities locally, which makes sure that our community supports a wide range of good causes.

You can donate food to Southend Foodbank any time you shop in these stores:

Asda, North Shoebury Road, Shoeburyness, SS3 8DA

When you donate at a supermarket, you give MORE!

When you donate at Asda, Tesco and Waitrose, the foodbank also gets a top-up payment from the supermarket throughout the year. From Asda this is £2.37 for each kilo of customer purchases that are donated in store; for Tesco the rate is fixed with 15% going to Trussell Trust and 85% going to Southend Foodbank; for Waitrose the £2.37 per kilo is paid from the Food Drive.

Lidl and Aldi provide additional items for free to the foodbank through their Neighbourly partnership, including waste-reduction items. These are collected by volunteers and taken directly to the next foodbank session.

In-store collections

Throughout the year supermarkets invite Southend Foodbank to come into their stores and do a special collection. Volunteers set up a display point, usually near the entrance, and hand out shopping lists, talk about the foodbank and collect donations directly from shoppers – with lots of thanks!

We always need more people to give a couple of hours at these events. If you’d like to help, please visit our Volunteer page. Under 18s/over 12s are welcome to help at the one-day events with a guardian or parent also helping.
