Big Give 2022

12th October 2022

The Big Give has now closed. Thank you to all our pledgers, donors and supporters. Together we exceeded our target!

This year, Southend Foodbank is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign.

Giving Tuesday

The Christmas Challenge helps UK-registered charities to raise funds for their projects by doubling donations when the campaign goes live on November 29th 2022, on “Giving Tuesday”.

Donations will be open 12pm, 29 November 2022 to 12pm, 6 December 2022.

If you’re able to give before Christmas, save the date, donate during the Big Give and your donation to the food bank will be matched. You donate, they match and together you make twice the impact for the food bank.

What is the Big Give?

The Big Give is a national charitable giving campaign that matches companies and philanthropists looking to support ordinary charities to maximise their fundraising. Southend Foodbank has been matched with The Reed Foundation, who will provide matched funding during the Christmas Challenge.

We’re only able to take part because brilliant local organisations have already pledged an amazing £2500, including:

Thank you to all our champions!

Why we fundraise

We currently manage 95 tonnes of food in a year and make and distribute over 300 food parcels each week. With the cost of living rising, we face a shortfall because donations aren’t keeping up with the increasing number of referrals.  Foodbank users are also increasingly struggling with fuel, bills and debt.  We plan to use the money raised through the Big Give to help cover the shortfall in food donations and to extend our fuel voucher access, topping up those on pre-paid meters.  As we are outgrowing our facilities we also need to carry out essential maintenance to the space we use to pack and store food, to make sure we can expand our capacity for sending out food parcels where they are needed. Doubling your donation through the Big Give means we can keep the food bank open this winter and keep giving support to people who need it most in our community.
