Earlier today, Jeremy Vine discussed Foodbanks on his Radio 2 programme. Our Media and Campaigns Coordinator Cass Francis joined the discussion, speaking about the 58% increase in referrals we have seen during August 2022. This was the second busiest month for food provision we have recorded, since we opened in November 2013.
We’ve had a shocking increase… a higher than national average increase, up to 50% all through the year, and then August was the second busiest month that we’ve ever had in nine years of doing food bank.
We are increasingly worried for the winter period this year, with fuel prices set to increase dramatically on the 1st October, combined with the spiralling costs of food. Our volunteers have been working under immense pressure, but we all remain committed to providing emergency food parcels to those who need them.
