GIVING TUESDAY

3rd December 2019

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving, created to be a new ritual at the start of December to encourage generosity and to do something good for others.  It’s a good day to remind people how you can support Southend Foodbank, including free and quick ways to help, as well as giving food and money.

Give food

Find your nearest drop-off point or check our local Tesco store, many are collecting food for us this Christmas bit.ly/MapFoodbank

For December there’s a reverse advent calendar, where you add a foodbank item each day and then donate in January. Or take the #6forSouthend challenge by donating 6 items from our wishlist.

Give money

Cash donations help with running costs and food purchases when we run out of essentials. Adding Gift Aid increases your donation by 25%.

Give as you shop

  • Amazon Smile

If you shop with Amazon, you can make donations to your chosen charity without spending any more on your purchases. Amazon makes the donation on your behalf, as a small percentage of what you spend but only if you purchase through Amazon Smile. Smilematic is an extension for Chrome, Firefox and Safari users to make this easier, which automatically redirects links that would normally go to Amazon to AmazonSmile.

You can find Southend Foodbank on AmazonSmile or search ‘Southend Foodbank’ in the listed charities, smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/1163160-0  or through couponfollow.com/smilematic

  • EasyFundraising.org.uk

Easyfundraising.org.uk brings together ~4000 online retailers and when you shop they make free donations to your chosen charity.  Easyfundraising also runs prize draws, double donation weeks and special offers. In December you can enter every day for a chance to win prizes both for yourself and the foodbank.  Add the Donation Reminder to see whenever a donation is available. Retailers include ebay, Amazon, Just Eat, Argos, Groupon and most major supermarkets, travel sites and department stores. Sign up to support us www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/southendfoodbank/

Give as you sell

If you’re selling items on ebay you can donate a portion of your sale to Southend Foodbank. Donate between 10% to 100% of your sales by listing your item with an ebay for charity ribbon. Buyers can also add gift aid.

Add Southend Foodbank as a favourite charity to your ebay account to see when new items supporting us are listed on charity.ebay.co.uk/charity/Southend-Foodbank/3229006

Give time

We’d love some extra hands to help with manual handling and lifting in the warehouse, especially as we’re moving around a ton of food every week at the moment. Several of our distribution centres also need extra support, especially from people confident with using a tablet or moving boxes of food, as well as talking to people with compassion. There is always more to do with fundraising, especially helping organise ticketed events. If you’d like to volunteer, find out more about the different roles and application southend.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/volunteer/
