Giving Tuesday 2021

30th November 2021

Giving Tuesday is a day for people around the world to show their support for charities and good causes – and it holds the world record for the biggest amount donated to charity online in 24 hours. It’s a boost of kindness, generosity and giving back to our communities.

This year here are three things you can do on Giving Tuesday to get involved (and only one costs money).

LOVE LOUD

Share your story and tell everyone why you support your local foodbank with #MyGivingStory. Feeling good from giving? Moved by frustration or sadness that there is a need in our community? Proud of the difference you’re making? Hopeful for what change we can make together? Whatever your support looks like, food, money, time, campaigning, this is a good day to say it out loud. Share your story of supporting Southend Foodbank, remember to tag us in or share your story in a comment on our posts, and add #MyGivingStory to join the conversation.

KEEP IT GOING

Download Bank the Food app and every time you go into a supermarket collecting for a local foodbank you’ll get a notification, with a suggestion of their most needed items that day. It makes it easier to remember to donate and helps you respond to immediate priorities. A big boost on Giving Tuesday is brilliant but having supporters every other day of the year is what keeps us going. The Bank the Food app is one way to keep connected to your local foodbank and it’s completely free to use, although you still have to pay for the food and toiletries you donate!

DONATE TO THE FOODBANK CROWDFUNDER

Sometimes the most versatile and immediate way you can help meet urgent needs is to donate money.

This year we have more centres open, more volunteers, more places referring people in need to us, more places collecting food and more ways you can get involved from donations to campaigning. All of this is because there are more people than ever turning to Southend Foodbank for support – a sad fact that drives all that we do and all that we ask people like you to do to help. All donations are appreciated, sharing the link to our Crowdfunder appeal helps even if you can’t donate money today.

Adding Gift Aid when you donate through Crowdfunder means the foodbank gets an extra 25% on top of your donation, without you paying any more. If you donate £2, choose to add Gift Aid as a UK taxpayer, and the foodbank receives a total of £2.50 including the extra boost from Gift Aid; £10 becomes £12.50, £15 becomes £18.75, £20 becomes £25… and all those extra boosts make a big difference to the how much we raise together for the winter appeal.

You can support our fundraisers, use the Bank the Food app and join our campaigns against poverty all the way through the year – but if you have time, joining in on Giving Tuesday along with everyone else can help make an impact that reaches people who wouldn’t otherwise notice.
Whether it’s clicks, cans or cash, what you give makes a difference. Thank you!
