The Trussell Trust runs the largest network of food banks in the UK, giving emergency food and support to people in crisis. Fourteen million people live below the poverty line and in the last year 2,5 million three-day emergency food supplies were distributed to people in crisis.
Southend Foodbank have taken the decision to triple the amount of vouchers our guests can utilise in a rolling 6-month period.
The previous limit of 3 vouchers in a rolling 6-month period has now been increased to 9 vouchers in 6 months. This decision has been made as a reaction to the ongoing financial and food insecurity experienced by many as a result of the pandemic.
We have received so much support from the community in terms of food and cash donations, it’s given us the remarkable opportunity to adapt and extend the support we can offer. Our ethos since opening in 2013 has always been to provide emergency food parcels in times of crisis, and with this increase in support we are reflecting the myriad of obstacles many people have had to deal with since the Coronavirus outbreak started.
Vouchers can be obtained by calling Citizens Advice Southend on 01702 456366 or 456352 to go the referral process.
